Sunday April 17, 2011 I recorded a new Pangea song for an upcoming comp. that Charlene Yi is going to be putting out. The record contains only songs about animals, so William wrote “Little Alligator” specifically for this album. It was kinda a crash recording session. Typically I only do full band tracking when the boss is out of town because there’s usually not enough time between shifts at my studio day job. But Pangea needed to get this song done ASAP so I thought “What the Hell?”. I enlisted Jenae to assist me for the session, get stuff setup and take pictures on my iPhone since she didn’t have film for her camera. Just so all you readers know, the Live Room at Mix LA is typically set up as a lounge with a couple of cozy chairs and a couch and pinball machines etc etc. For a normal session, I move everything out of there so we have a giant recording space. I didn’t have that kind of time. So Jenae and I basically just pushed a couple of items aside and decided to use the rest as dampers. The band rolled in a couple hours later at 9pm and we got started. We finished tracking by about 2am and when we sat down to mix, we realized how exhausted we were. So the band left and I set about getting the studio back in order since it was a regular day of work on Monday. I got home about 5am and just crashed. We finish the mix tonight (Thursday) and hopefully the compilation will be out soon. I’ll post about it as soon as I know anything. This was a great unexpected session. I just love getting into the studio and banging something out in a few hours.
